About The Artist
Creativity is Gail Ragains’ favorite mode of travel, an open-ended journey. Ragains doesn’t need much when she is in her studio, except materials to produce lines, shapes, and colors. Once the paint cans are open, her mind is free to discover and explore. The figure has always been dominant in Ragains’ years of making art. What inspires her are the physical gestures and emotions of people.
About The Artwork
When Gail Ragains starts a painting, she prefers loose and gestural brush strokes, layering warms and cools, lights and darks and random lines, applying and erasing, dripping and slopping. Ragains prefers to leave a painting just a bit unfinished rather than over worked. This allows the viewer to enter into the painting with their own stories. Having lived in California her entire life, Ragains is influenced by the California colors, golden hills, clear blue skies, swimsuits and swimming pools.
