About The Artist
Katie Willes never thought of herself as a creative growing up. She had a brain for math and science and always believed that excluded art and creativity, but her mother loved art and passed that love along. Willes started out as an art collector and appreciator. When Katie’s oldest went to college, she started out majoring in art. She was thousands of miles away in Hawaii, and to feel closer to her, Willes would go in her room and play with her art supplies. The day Katie used acrylic paint to create an abstract piece her soul lit up! It was so much fun and she knew she wanted to do it for the rest of her life.
About The Artwork
Katie Willes embraces the unexpected and finds beauty in the unique and imperfect. She likes to let the medium do its thing, and not try to force an outcome. When she can, Katie Willes likes to take her hand out of the art. She uses pieces of dried acrylic that she peels from her palette for petals in her flowers, creating texture that cannot be duplicated with a brush or tool.
