About The Artist
Linda Curtis was born in the “coal regions” of Pennsylvania, and her surroundings were coal dust grey. In her painting, Linda Curtis sees her world in terms of vibrant color. Curtis is fascinated by contrasts: light and dark, lost and found, wash in juxtaposition to hard edges. Painting for Linda Curtis has become an expression of her inner serenity and clarity.
About The Artwork
Linda Curtis’s work is an attempt to encapsulate fleeting moments in the natural world. Her background is as an acrylic painter which was her chosen medium in art school. About 10 years ago, without taking a class, Linda discovered other water-media (watercolor, gouache, and casein), and she joyfully began experimenting. Linda Curtis captures the transitory nature of her subjects by using techniques which are available to her primarily in these mediums. Glazing is a technique Linda uses frequently in order to give vibrancy and glow to her subjects. The act of painting is meditative for Linda Curtis, and often results in a painting which engenders a peaceful feeling in others. That feeling is her intent.
