About The Artist
Topher Straus creates works of fine art in his hometown of Golden, Colorado. His portfolio consists of original and limited-edition aluminum landscape prints. Straus has been creating art for more than 20 years and is featured in galleries and museums across the nation.
Inspired by his own exploration of the outdoors and a strong desire for continued environmental preservation, Straus’ large-scale paintings take an original approach to depicting iconic scenery across the globe. His process blends photography with digital painting. The completed image is sublimed onto a large sheet of aluminum and finished with a high-gloss transparent acrylic resin. The final result is: vibrant, transcending abstractions of familiar destinations.
About The Artwork
Topher Straus’s process includes modern technology and methods that are sparsely used by creators of fine art. He examines a photograph, looking for the most intriguing aspects of the image and the most prominent colors. Straus then takes his stylus and selects specific colors from the original image—turning it into his palette—and paints over the photograph with those original colors. The end result is a well-known landscape engulfed in contoured lines that superimpose the autogenous beauty of the original photograph. Straus takes recognizable, natural landscapes and converts them into a modern array of sharp lines—blending and contorting them up the slope of a mountain or shaping the soft, blurred lines of a waterfall.
